*materials fee - $15 -- Traveling back to the origins of theatre in Greece, masks played an essential part in storytelling and dramatic production. The comedy and drama masks, most commonly used today as a symbol for theare arts, were used frequently in actual production to clearly illustrate to an audience familiar character types and prevailing themes. A fundamental theatrical element for centuries, masks forged the way for our modern perception of stock characters such as heroes, villains, and fools; with elements still used today with clowning. In this course students will learn multiple techniques for building Greek, and other types of masks, creating up to three of their very own. They will also learn how to use them theatrically by staging short scenes.
