Grocery Stores are filled to the brim with exciting textures, products, smells and more! Makers will spend the week making the ultimate play sized grocery store. Each day we’ll explore a new department, tackle new materials, processes, and themes. Think felt food, cereal boxes, DIY Sushi and pizza, paper flowers for the floral department and a healthy dose of cardboard creation for displays, products, and a check out stand.
On the last day, we'll set up shop. Campers will be able to "buy and sell" their creations to each other.
PRODUCE AISLE: Felt food! We’ll design cut and stitch our own felt food extravaganza! Think fruits, veggies, and more.
CEREAL AISLE: Pop-Art Cereal Box. We’ll explore the intersection of art, commerce, and design while campers use cardboard, paint, vinyl, and all of our upcycled goodies to create a multimedia cereal box complete with a toy surprise inside.
BAKERY DEPARTMENT: Bakery Day! We’ll use colorful oven bake clay, salt dough and papier mache to create delicious (looking) baked goods.
FLORAL/CANNED GOODS/PREPARED FOODS: Makers’ choice: Be in charge of the floral department and create one-of-a-kind flowers using felt, tissue paper and more. More into the canned goods? Design the packaging for your own line of soup, then fill the can with your own DIY fake food creations. String spaghetti, anyone? Love the ready-made foods? Let's make pizza slices, sushi and more!
OPENING DAY! We’ll build our cardboard shop, make some sweet DIY grocery bags then we'll shop, play and revel in all of the grand opening glory!
