When we work as an ensemble we really begin to understand the nature of collaboration and how to both see the gifts in others and focus on our own contributions to creativity.
As kids head towards their teens, they begin to grapple with ideas about their place in the world.
Kids who are worried about saying or doing “the wrong thing” can sometimes hide their most unique qualities in pursuit of fitting in or being cool. When we focus on how our words are a valuable part of a bigger picture, the focus becomes less self-conscious and the communication flows more freely. Simultaneously, when we accept the uniqueness of others, by looking for their gifts, we create the kind of collaborative society we want to live in.
In our welcoming and nurturing classrooms, THE LAUGHING ACADEMY embraces the basic lesson of improv - which is that there are no wrong answers. In this environment, students are free to embrace their amazing individuality, and build confidence in their own ideas and instincts while still respecting the perspective and contributions of others.
Our middle school level class utilizes traditional short-form improv exercises, but will also challenge these older students by introducing long-form styles, scenework, and a focus on organically finding the truth in each moment and in the characters we create.
In addition to building self-esteem, creativity, teamwork, and listening skills, this class will help students get better at understanding and expressing their feelings, and gain greater empathy for the experiences of others – all while having loads of fun and blowing off steam.
Help your child understand and appreciate all the unique things that make them so awesome, and build the courage to make their own mark on the world!
Each class culminates in a final presentation which we will record to share with families.
