(for those who be grades K-2 in the fall)
Let’s get moving! Communication is far more than just the words we say, it’s how we say them and how we use our physical being to communicate. We’ll explore physical comedy and communication, including pantomime, clowning and more. And, we’ll look at how we create location and props through pantomime when we create an improv scene. The sky’s not even the limit when it comes to our imagination and improv, anything we dream we can be and anything we wish for is right within reach.
Classes for this age group focus on group improv and team-building games, fostering a fun and exciting atmosphere where everyone gets to participate while they learn to work co-operatively and develop the self-confidence to express their creative intuition.
Our performance games for children are age-appropriate versions of the short form improv exercises developed by Viola Spolin, and best known through work by The Second City. Skills developed through short form improv exercises at this age include: empathy – the ability to see another person’s point of view and appreciate their feelings, justification – the ability to extemporaneously express and explain a point of view, and storytelling - the basis of the skills needed for literary analysis.
Each session culminates in an in-class demonstration on the last hour of the last day, and we will seek an appropriate way to share it with parents, whether via Zoom, recording or outdoors.
Give your child an unforgettable experience while building life skills and having a laugh!
All camps and classes are masked and socially distanced. We have been running learning pods and classes over the last several months and are practiced at maintaining safety during this unusual time.
