Visual Arts: Drawing and Painting Immersive Workshop

2nd - 6th grade

Description

In this course, we will go in depth exploring different drawing and painting media and methods. We will try our hands at techniques from the Renaissance all the way through modern and contemporary art. These include chiaroscuro (lights and darks), expressive art that is directly inspired by music, and monotypes (painting onto acrylic boards and printing onto paper. We will work from observation and from imagination.

Barbara Neulinger has been a painter and art educator for over 20 years. She has taught art at the primary, elementary, middle school, high school and college level and has been the art teacher at the Montessori School of Northampton since 2001. She received her MFA in painting from Indiana University and is currently the Scenic Charge and Prop Master in the Department of Theater at UMASS. Barbara has exhibited her in artwork New York City, Mexico City, and Lecce, Italy, and locally at Smith College’s Oresman Gallery and Hampden Gallery at UMass.


Notes:

Please send your child with at least 2 shirts that they can get paint on. Please bring bag lunch. AM & PM snacks served.
