The Renaissance Child offers a strong curriculum taught by dedicated teachers who will be there to keep your family’s learning goals intact and work to catch your child up from anything they may have missed during the adjusted spring term. STEAM education at The Renaissance Child can help with the basics like English and Math, but also, let’s not forget that our children need exposure to the arts, music, and more to help them to grow and to find and express themselves.
This learning pod will consist of 40 minutes of Math, 40 minutes of English (every other class Grammar Essentials/Writing Process or Reading Comprehension and Strategy), 40 minutes of rotating between Coding with Scratch Jr, Spanish, and STEAM. Extended-day option available for 30 minutes of homework/assignments help.
Children will be working on developing strategies for:
Operations: addition and subtraction, family facts, double facts, and other strategies.
Place value (operating 4-digit numbers)
Beginning multiplication (1st Grade)
English Curriculum: Grammar Essentials/Writing Process or Reading Comprehension and Strategy
Our English program will focus on the Integration of Knowledge and Ideas with a continued focus on grammar, literacy building, and writing fundamentals.
Students will achieve mastery in the following literacy indicators:
With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts). With prompting and support, identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text. With prompting and support, identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures).
Coding with Scratch:
Each week we will explore a science topic through animations and games using the Scratch platform. Kids will learn how to program their own interactive stories and solve problems designing their projects.
Our goal is to teach students through project-based learning how to combine each of the five disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and foster an inclusive learning environment in which all kids are able to engage and contribute. Through this innovative approach, students are able to exercise both sides of their brain at once.
Instruction will focus on the four ke
y areas of a foreign language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students in this course will learn Spanish grammar and thematic vocabulary including a review of basics, geography, travel, sports, art, food, and family.
The Class size is small. Each child will have a separate desk and individual work supplies. Kids are encouraged to wear masks but don't have to since they don't seat close to each other. Teachers will be wearing a mask. Temperature and symptoms check will be administered before entering the studio. Parents are not allowed inside the facility, drop-off only. Parents have to take turns to drop-off/pick-up their kids and not to come upstairs if another student or parent at the door. If a student had a contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case a student has to be quarantined for 14 days prior to returning to the studio. If a child within the pod got sick with COVID-19 all parents will be informed and the pod will be moved online for 14 days.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL NEED FOR EACH CLASS:
Parents will have to purchase some workbooks and notebooks for the English class.
Kids will need a tablet for Coding with Scratch Jr.
