Class Experience

Students will dive into the process, tools and technique for creating their own comics stories and characters. They will learn how to use different text/image relationships, expression, sound effects, layout and panel structure to bring their stories to life. From writing through sketching to inking, students will follow the unique process of comics to tap into their own creativity and explore new exciting ways to tell stories.

Class 1: Introduction - Basic Comic Terms
Class 2: Characters + Expression
Class 3: Text in Comics + Sound Effects
Class 4: Time in Comics
Class 5: Establishing Shot + Basic Perspective
Class 6: Layout and Thumb-nailing - Story Flow
Class 7: Inking
Class 8: Cover Design (or finishing inking)

Materials List:

- Handouts, either delivered to students or printed out on home printer
- Pencil, sketch paper, eraser, sharpener, ruler (I love this one for panel borders
- Some inking pens (this is a nice affordable little set
- A few sheets of Bristol paper and 1 sheet of transfer paper
