Class Experience

Chances are if you are taking this class, you are thinking about creating characters for a children’s book story or perhaps just wanting to learn more about drawing. We will explore a variety of contemporary picture book illustrator’s characters as well as some well known and beloved timeless book characters. We will learn techniques to create fun and often simple and relatable characters using the basic elements of design (color, shape, line, etc). Each week will focus on a different topic related to character development (face expression, drawing with shapes, drawing characters with consistency, etc) and each student will create their own characters. Students will be encouraged to be imaginative, playful, expressive, experimental, and to have fun creating simple characters in an extremely supportive and engaging environment regardless of their skill set coming into the class.
