Summer Camp // Plastic Arts

1st - 5th grade

Description

In Plastics camp, students will be pushed to examine their personal consumption habits, the impact of plastic on our environment, and how we can use art to create change. Students will re-use plastic to create bottle cap mosaics, water bottle sculptures, and plastic mandalas. Some projects will be mainly collaborative while others will be more personally independent. Students will explore a range of media throughout the class, such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. As a class we will partner with environmental organizations, such as Surfrider, to transform our art projects into action pieces. We will also be studying the work of plastic environmental artists as well as inviting artists to come and give presentations to the class. This Plastics camp is an opportunity for students to practice creative problem solving through exploring how art can make a positive impact in their community.
