Class Experience

Location: Will rotate for each hike. Each location will be within a 1 hour drive of Denver.
April 10 - Mt Falcon Park Upper Loop: 4ish miles
May 8 - Matthews/Winters Park Red Rocks Trail: 6 miles
August 14 - Pence Park: 7-mile hike
Time: 9:00am - Noon

Come spend a relaxing day in nature while sharing space created by and for womxn of color!

This event offers the perfect opportunity for beginners and long-time outdoor recreationalists alike. Participants can use this time to learn more about hiking and how to stay safe and healthy outside.

Share your experiences in nature, bring your questions and curiosity, and discuss the risks and rewards of the outdoors. Above all, celebrate and reclaim the richness of our traditions and culture in this very special community setting.

- How and what to pack for a safe, enjoyable experience
- Addressing microaggressions in the outdoors
- Environmental racism and how it impacts us
- How to prepare for shifting temperatures of Winter
- Exploring our stories of reclaiming space in nature
- Why land acknowledgment matters
- Map reading and time tracking
- Principles of leave no trace and trail etiquette
- Mindfulness and self-care
- And more!

This half-day Trailblazers event is good for all skill levels. We will take breaks for activities, discussions, informal lessons, photos, and fun!

Your Instructors
Lisa (she/her/hers) is a retired firefighter paramedic who finds physical and mental respite in nature, and loves to share these benefits with nature newcomers! Wildlife, plants, and outdoor skills are her jam and she hopes to pass on some useful knowledge. She holds degrees in healthcare science, zoology, and outdoor education.

Kirste (she/her/hers) is a passionate outdoor enthusiast who loves being in community while in nature. She’s all about bringing mindfulness and storytelling into the mix in ways that heighten the inner and outer adventure by teaching us more about ourselves and our surroundings. She’s also a trail runner, writer, and Wilderness First Responder.
