  • Half-Days vary - following the Chugach Optional and ASD 2023-24 calendar 
  • Pick up from Chugach Optional Elementary School and an afternoon spent exploring the Chanshtnu (westchester) Lagoon and its greenbelt!


This school year, our Afternoon Program in the West Chester Creek Greenbelt explores the wild/urban connection that exists in our West Chester Creek Greenbelt, Westchester Lagoon, and the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. The focus will be outdoor studies, sports, and environmental science through hands-on learning and play. Topics and themes will loosely follow the seasons and the weather, and we take learning opportunities as they occur through exploration and observation.

OPERATING CALENDAR: Our after school programming runs from Mid August to Late May, following the Anchorage School District 2021/2022 calendar and the Chugach Optional specific half-days. 

Sample Class Format

  • THE LOGISTICS:
  • *11:15 am: Youth Outdoor Explorers are picked up from Chugach Optional when school lets out at 11:15 am on half-days, and from there we will transport kiddos in our van to Westchester Lagoon, or our office/HQ, the Little Blue Shop, in the South Addition on very cold winter days.
  • *5:30 - 6:00 pm: Parents Pick up their students at Westchester Lagoon or The Little Blue Shop at 1343 G st.

Tina K.

Tina is the Owner, Director, and Dreamer of new adventures at Into the Woods Alaska. Her love for outdoor adventure fuels her mission to share outdoor skills and safety with everyone. Tina is a former NCAA Division 1 Cross-Country and Track and Field Athlete, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Languages (Spanish), a WFR (Wilderness First Responder), and a TRG (Top Rope Guide) with PCGI (Professional Climbing Guides Institute).
