It’s been seven years since Anna, Elsa, and Olaf first came into our lives, and since that time, the characters from this movie have become permanent residents in our homes.

They may not pay rent, help clean, or provide any assistance with the cooking, but year after year we let them stick around. We even graciously extended their stay after the sequel came out in 2019 and reignited a whole new batch of Frozen obsessed little ones.

(Plus, if you honestly considered kicking out Elsa and the gang your children would think you were a worse villain than Prince Hans of the Southern Isles and no one wants that.)

In our new identity as “Frozen Parents,” we watch and re-watch and re-watch the movies, play with the dolls, and don our best Frozen dress up attire all the while realizing that if our children are going to be obsessed with movies, it certainly could be a lot worse! In fact, there’s a lot children can learn from these characters so pressing play (again) is basically like school. Right?

Life lessons from Frozen

Need some proof, or reassurance, that watching Frozen and Frozen II on an alternating loop can actually be a good thing? Check out some of these life lessons.

Anna

Teaches children about loyalty, courage, and why it’s important to think through your romantic entanglements.

Elsa

Teaches our children about being true to yourself, bravery, and how to belt out an e-flat.

Olaf

Teaches our children about kindness, positivity, and not to believe everything you read on the internet. No way Olaf is 5’4’’! That would make Elsa what, 11 feet tall? No internet, just no.

Kristof

Teaches our children about independence, candor, and that we’re all a little weird.

Hans

Teaches our children that being a big old jerk doesn’t work out so well, no matter how good your dance moves are.

The Northuldra

Teach our children about nature, spiritual connections, and not to play with fire even if it’s very adorable fire.

Sven

Is a reindeer and we’ve never really gotten a great read on him. But there’s probably something there.

Other benefits of Frozen mania

If those lessons aren’t enough to convince you of all the benefits of Frozen, let’s continue!

Shopping made easy

Does this request sound familiar? “Mom, can I please have a Frozen backpack/toothbrush/hair scrunchie/night light/book etc.?” Of course, we’re not going to be giving in to every request from our children. But when it comes time for birthday present shopping or finding a way to get them to brush their teeth without complaint, there are literally dozens of each of those Frozen themed items two clicks away. That’s called efficiency!

Karaoke practice

If you haven’t joined Elsa yet in trying to hit that e-flat then I suggest you start working on it. The songs from Frozen aren’t going anywhere, and even if you aren’t rocking these particular tunes at karaoke, at least you’ll have been working on your vocal range courtesy of the incomparable Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell.

Fun activities

It’s easy to get children excited about trying new activities when their favorite characters are involved. Dance parties, storytime, crafts, singing classes, acting - the list goes on. Frozen has found its way into all of them, including these virtual classes, and alongside Elsa your child will be even more excited to give them a go!

We’re not letting it go

So if the kingdom of Arendelle has annexed your home too, don’t worry. You’re in good hands with Elsa, Anna, and their friends.

And while it’s true that there will probably be another movie that comes along to leave it’s songs stuck in our heads and stickers covering our walls, right now we’ll happily hum along to Frozen knowing that it’s not quite time to let it go. The cold never bothered us anyway.
