Introduction

Scribble Art Workshop is a developmentally-based art program for children as young as eighteen months to adults. The program offers classes, camps, and workshops with options available for online and in-home private lessons and pod classes. Instructors also serve schools and communities by teaching in schools and in partnership with community organizations. They also offer several package options for birthday parties and private events. Sasha’s business not only provides excellent enrichment experiences for children but presents them in a variety of ways to meet the needs of clients across the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut community and more broadly nationwide through online offerings.

Before Sawyer, Sasha’s company used the Mindbody registration system. This was functional but rather inflexible for the children’s activity industry, as it was primarily designed for the needs of yoga studios and fitness classes. Finding a flexible software that met the needs of a multifaceted business was a priority for Scribble Art. Then came Sawyer — a way to solve for a wide array of business needs.

Problem

In 2017, Sasha was using Mindbody, a registration software designed for yoga studios to manage her art business. While it worked well enough to make ends meet, Sasha’s business was growing and she had a distinct need for software that understood the children’s activity industry. The Mindbody parent registration process involved constant workarounds with manual adjustments on the administrative side — that amounted to more time spent in the backend, and less time focusing on strategy, relationships, and scale.

When asked what her biggest challenge before Sawyer was, Sasha answered, “Registration and enrollment. Mindbody was a constant "workaround" to make sense with our business. Now that has all become seamless!”

At our studios, everyone is an artist. We seek to build creativity as a life skill that will serve our students beyond the art studio. Our job is to bring the materials and methods that help students tap back into a primal maker self, a joyful artist who believes she or he knows how to make a thing of beauty.

Solution

When a business owner spends time focusing on administrative workarounds, there is less time to spend on expanding business offerings and overall growth. After researching software solutions, Sasha found Sawyer. In Sawyer, Sasha found a solution that wasn’t clumsy and had better functionality to meet the needs of her growing business. Gone were the days of software struggles, and in were the days of streamlined operations.

Beyond streamlining her workflow, Sasha remarked that “Having [Sawyer’s] registration system be so effective and user friendly allowed us to focus on the parts of the business that we needed to spur this growth. Business owners have their hands in many aspects of the operations and conception of the company that it's essential to have certain systems work so efficiently with minimal effort and attention.”

What’s been remarkable about Sasha’s partnership with Sawyer — outside of saving valuable time — is that Sasha’s team has had more time to focus on customer acquisition. Through recommendations, community-based marketing (think farmer’s markets and coffee shops), and free trials, Scribble Art Workshop has been able to scale its enrollment by nearly 35% a year and has demonstrated monthly increases in revenue averaging 20%. Sasha’s team uses Sawyer to show children that everyone is an artist.

Through on-site instruction and experiences that keep students returning, Scribble Art has effectively shown that they have an extraordinary power to “build creativity as a life skill that will serve our students beyond the art studio. Our job is to bring the materials and methods that help students tap back into a primal maker self, a joyful artist who believes she or he knows how to make a thing of beauty.”
