Sawyer partners with hundreds of educators who are stars in their communities. From inspiring class content to engaging teaching styles, these educators are known for their enriching activities that empower both children and parents alike.
We got the opportunity to chat with Gassia Joulakian, owner and art educator at Petit Bizoo, which provides art classes and camps to children in LA. Their programs offer a variety of creative experiences that acquaint them with art principles, materials and techniques that will promote their aesthetic sensibilities, creative mind, and kinetic abilities. We spoke about about inspiring moments in and out of the classroom, the importance of out-of-school education, and how Sawyer helps them grow.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Iâd love to hear a bit more about you and why you started your business.
My earliest memories of self-expression and self-awareness began with drawing. Growing up, I was fortunate to have the full support of my parents, but I had limited access to art classes. As I pursued my artistic education, I became aware of what I had missed as a child: How my curiosity to explore, create, and experience art had not been fully nurtured. Alongside this, Iâve always loved being around people, especially children, and creating spaces where they feel safe, seen, and encouraged. These experiences and passions ultimately led me to start this business.

Can you describe an inspiring moment youâve had as an educator? Â
Ah, so many! When a student realizes they can achieve something and you see that moment when their face lights up. Or when a student discovers a different way of creating than the way I teach, itâs both humbling and inspiring. Itâs a reminder that we are raising thinkers and creators.
Whatâs the most rewarding thing about teaching children? Â
One of the best surprises is when past students return to visit after years away. Itâs happened a few times.
Whatâs one time a child surprised you and made your day?Â
One of the best surprises is when past students return to visit after years away. Itâs happened a few times, and I just love it.
On a similar note, whatâs the funniest thing a child has done in your class?Â
So many funny moments and laughter, cannot pin it on one situation or one child.Â
Why is after school/extracurricular enrichment and camp so important for children? Â
They create a sense of community and allow children to explore beyond what is offered in schools. Through after-school programs, kids discover their passions and develop confidence in their creativity.
How do you think children can discover their passions when theyâre not in school or your programs?Â
When they are in nature outdoors and with great books!

What is your favorite Sawyer feature?Â
The âfill in the blanksâ for listings and scheduling for sure! But, my favorite is the overall design, itâs clean but at the same time detailed, itâs personable, not just an application to fill out.
What's one trick you learned from another educator that you still practice?Â
The one thing I practice , I actually learned from my parents, is to genuinely connect with the students and parents and make them feel they truly matter, because they do matter. And the rest follows.
Have you discovered new customers on the Sawyer Marketplace? Â
To be honest not so much
How do you balance your time between running your business (from an operational perspective) and teaching/connecting with parents and students?Â
With the support of a dedicated team of facilitators, Iâm able to both connect with parents during drop-off and pick-up and focus fully on the children during class, making sure to engage personally with every student.
How has Sawyer helped your business?Â
Sawyer has helped me become more organized in the administrative and operational aspects of my business. As an art educator running a business, having the support of an entire âteamâ on the business side has been incredibly comforting and valuable.
