Photography

Style/ Subject Matter

Our photography style is candid, and should be something that you could see a guardian or provider capturing in the spur of the moment. Images should focus around people and a clear action. The people in each photo should have generally neutral or positive expressions. Avoid overly polished or posed looking photos. Try to use imagery where it’s clear which role each individual has (children, guardians, educators, support staff, etc).

Images should not have too high contrast, or too low contrast. We tend to lean towards yellow/ warm tones, and avoid overly saturated or highly stylized content.

COVID-19 note: In general, try to use images where the children look masked or like they could be in a pod, at home, outside, or social distancing. Try to use photos where the instructor figure is masked, or it’s ambiguous.

Diversity & Inclusion

We want our photography to reflect our diverse provider community and families that use Sawyer. When sourcing imagery, be conscious of including adults and children with a diverse range of age groups, skin tones, gender presentations, body types, and abilities.

Quality

Use high quality photos. Images should be high resolution, have a good composition, have clear subject matter, and come from legitimate sources.

Environment & Location

When representing a specific season, location, or activity, look for imagery that matches the environment and activity description. As Sawyer currently only operates in the United States, photography should look like it takes place in the US. Be mindful of maps, signage, and text in the background of imagery which may indicate otherwise. There are key exceptions to this guidance such as activities or providers with an international, geographical, or language focus.

Licensing

It is pertinent that we secure appropriate licensing for all images used by Sawyer. If you are unsure whether we have permission to use an image, please reach out to the Brand design team.
