Typography

Primary type family: AD Brown

Usage

AD Brown is Sawyer’s primary brand type family and should be used whenever representing Sawyer in most contexts.

Usage exceptions

There are a few instances where other type families should be used instead of AD Brown.

When designing Sawyer product interfaces

Soleil is the primary type family used in Sawyer products and software including the Sawyer for Business portal and the Sawyer Marketplace.

When creating interactive elements such as buttons, forms, and activity cards

Soleil is our primary type family for these types of interactive elements.

When designing for emails or within other 3rd party platforms

When typesetting emails or on other 3rd party platforms that don’t allow for custom fonts, please use Source Sans Pro or a similar sans serif type family in place of our brand type families.

Weights

At Sawyer we stick to using three weights of AD Brown.

Light

The Light weight is used the least out of our three. We use Light for long-form text at larger sizes (to retain legibility) and to create additional hierarchy and contrast between the other weights.

Regular

The Regular weight is our most widely used weight — in fact, what you’re reading right now is AD Brown Regular! This weight is used for the majority of text, especially long-form text such as full sentences and paragraphs.

Bold

The Bold weight of AD Brown is the weight used in our Sawyer logo. This weight is primarily used to create emphasis and establish hierarchy. Bold is often used for headlines, quotes, captions, and call-to-actions.

Secondary type family: Soleil

Usage

Soleil is Sawyer’s secondary brand type family and is mostly used in our products and software and similar digital contexts. As mentioned above, here are some instances where Soleil should be used in instead of AD Brown:

When designing Sawyer product interfaces

Soleil is the primary type family used in Sawyer products and software including the Sawyer for Business portal and the Sawyer Marketplace.

When creating interactive elements such as buttons, forms, and activity cards

Soleil is our primary type family for these types of interactive elements.

Usage exceptions

When designing for emails or within other 3rd party platforms

When typesetting emails or on other 3rd party platforms that don’t allow for custom fonts, please use Source Sans Pro or a similar sans serif type family in place of our primary and secondary type families.

Weights

At Sawyer we stick to using five weights of Soleil.

Light

The Light weight is used in our UI, on our website, and in long-form text.

Regular

The Regular weight is our most widely used weight. This weight is used for the majority of text in our products, especially long-form text such as full sentences and paragraphs.

Book

In most cases, the Regular weight should be used instead of Book. The exception to this rule is when typesetting long-form print pieces.

SemiBold

The Bold weight of Soleil is primarily used to create emphasis and establish hierarchy. SemiBold is often used for headlines, buttons, and similar call-to-actions.

Bold

Similar to SemiBold, the Bold weight of Soleil is primarily used to create emphasis and establish hierarchy. Bold is most commonly used in headlines.
